Tim Delahunt's practice is devoted exclusively to counseling and litigation for New York insurers on all matters of coverage. Tim provides carriers with analysis and advice on coverage determinations that have yet to be made and coverage determinations under dispute. Tim's practice is heavily focused on coverage litigation in the New York state and federal courts, including all of the coverage-specific aspects of discovery, summary judgment motions, trials, and appeals.
Tim's practice extends to all policies and coverages, including CGL, excess and umbrella, commercial auto, personal lines, professional liability, and first-party coverages of all types. Tim is particularly experienced in the development and enforcement of cutting-edge non-standard language. He counsels both claims executives and underwriters who require language not available in ISO forms.
Given the size and importance of the New York City markets, Tim's litigation practice is concentrated in the five boroughs and Long Island, but the firm is able to provide carriers with cost-effective representation in every part of New York State.
Tim frequently speaks and writes on insurance coverage issues, including for the New York State Bar Association and the New York Unified Courts. He was one of four author/editors of the ABA's best-selling treatise, Construction Insurance (2009).
Tim founded Delahunt Law PLLC in 2020 to provide New York insurers with a coverage boutique option. Prior to that, Tim spent sixteen years at a leading panel coverage and defense firm. Prior to that, Tim practiced at Washington, DC policyholder firm Gilbert Heintz & Randolph.
